For those of you thinking of going tubeless, I recently got a pair of Michelin XCR Mud tyres and am well impressed by their grippiness in the wet. Raced on them practically brand new last sunday and although big phat 2.0 they rolled really well on the gravel and gave loads of confidence on the descents - also with the fatter tyre there's a bit more "suspension" - you'd think I would have enough with a full suss! Was out on Cavehill on Tues - more hard packed trails at the moment and still performed quite well until I got onto a section of old stone paving up behind the zoo and they went a bit sketchy. All in all really good tyre so far, we'll see how they go in Carlingford. Just a note of caution, I got a pair of michelin All terrain last year which started to shred (the nobbles started to come apart!) on the first outing, Conor is currently running them on his bike an reckons they hold alright on the back but the front washes out under all conditions. the moral being not all michelins are worth a look. Now the hunt for a good dry tyre, wishfull thinking?
