MTB action in Richhill
This weekend the historic County Armagh village of Richill will host a mountain bike event for the first time. Promoted by Orchard Wheelers a cross country event will be held as part of the annual village festival.
The course will be situated in the grounds of Richhill Castle, built in the 17th century(just as old a sNoel Gallagher )and rumoured to be haunted!!!!!!! The course is short but testing and includes a steep laneway climb, single track through the Castle wooded area. The races start in the village before riders charge into the grounds of the Castle, a high speed lap lasting around six minutes. This is a fun event but all the usual MTB classes will be catered for, indeed racing may be run on a handicap system to add to the fun factor.
The MTB action gets underway on Friday night with races for P6 and P7 pupils from four local schools, ONLY THESE KIDS ARE PERMITTED TO RACE ON FRIDAY NIGHT! On Saturday morning, the U-8/U-10 classes will take place at 11.30am, these riders having their own course. The remainder of the classes will compete over the main course, all races starting at the bottom of the main street. At noon racing will be for U-12/U-14/U-16 and Sports with the remainder of the action taking place at 1.15pm. The first three finishers in each class will receive medals.
Parking for the event will be in the grounds of Hardy Memorial Primary School with sign on opening at 10am. Entry fee is £2 for Youth and £5 for Seniors/Juniors. Please support this fun event, you never know, you may even see a ghost!
